Dear Parents and Students:
Welcome back! Regular private lessons begin Monday, September 9th. A Welcome Packet has beewn emailed all the calendars and forms for the year. Students will be receiving a paper copy in their binders at the first lesson. All students are asked to bring all books and binders from the previous year to their first lesson. All new music will be provided and students have the option of choosing new binders at the first lesson. New students will receive all needed materials at the first lesson.
In this year of the Summer Olympics, students will have the option of participating in a new program called Musicathlon. This will build upon the Music Achievement Award where students work toward the 30-piece challenge but add even more goals. Many students last year were asking about what they could work toward after achieving their 30-piece challenge and this program will add that additional challenge! A description is included in the Welcome Packet.
A copy of the Lesson Exchange List will be put in each student’s binder and will be emailed to each family as well. I am working on some requested scheduling changes so may be sending out an amended copy after the start of the piano year. Keep in mind that while you can contact me directly if you have a conflict in any given week to see if I have any cancellations, you may also contact other students on the list. To keep our information private, I do not post this on the website but will gladly email you the list if you do not have a copy.
Although all the required materials will be provided, it is perfectly fine for students to acquire music on their own to study. I would recommend SheetMusicPlus.com, which has just about anything you can imagine. Here is a link that is connected to my piano teaching account:

Feel free to contact me for recommendations regarding particular pieces or books. Remember, sheet music makes a wonderful gift for a pianist!
For those of you with acoustic pianos, please take a moment to check your records and see how recently you have had your piano tuned. The sound that a student achieves from their instrument is such an important part of the satisfaction received in learning a piece. A piano technician will also check your piano to make sure it is in good working order. The piano technician I use is Chaz Felizpour at Pitch Perfect Tuning:

I highly recommend that you schedule a tuning if you have not done so recently.
You can always check on calendars and announcements at my website www.lorimccarthypiano.com for the most up-to-date information. I look forward to seeing everyone in September!
Sincerely yours,
Lori
