Monthly Letter

Dear Parents and Students,

Here are a few upcoming calendar reminders and events.

Calendar reminders:

• There are no lessons on Monday, February 16th, President’s Day.

• There are no regular private lessons on Tuesday, February 17th, Group Lesson Day. 

The next Group Lesson Day will be held on Tuesday, February 17th. All students are invited to the Music Mind Games group. If your regular lesson lands on Tuesday, please come to the group instead of your private lesson so you don’t miss out on piano this week! There will be just one group from 4:30-5:30pm. Come and join this fun activity to play theory games, complete a goal for the Musicathlon, and earn lots of contest coins! The following students are signed up:

5:30pm Theory Practice Test - canceled due to insufficient enrollment

If you would like to be added to the list, please email me or sign up on the list in the computer room at your lesson. 

The MSMTA Theory Exam will be held at Watkins Mill High School in Germantown on Sunday, March 15th.  Times will be confirmed in late February/early March.

Here is a just a reminder about some ongoing challenges students may work toward this year, most of which are well underway! The Music Achievement Award goal is to learn 30 pieces. Students completing this goal will earn a medal at the end of the year. Students may also work toward medals in the Musicathlon, which requires completion of the 30-piece challenge plus additional goals in theory, performance, and keyboard skills. And any student that has performed this year in a musicale or recital will receive a performance trophy at the May recital (or at their last lesson of the year if unable to attend the recital). So there are lots of opportunities to work toward excellence in piano!
